There are actually two versions of the original art. Here’s the art is as it appeared on the splash page of “The End of Summer” in First Kiss #34 (drawn by the Vince Colletta Studio):

And here it is—slightly repositioned and reworked by Dick Giordano—for use on the issue’s cover:

To save time—and especially money—Charlton Comics often used elements of the interior art for its covers.

The original 1958 First Kiss art is to the right.
As usual, it’s from a story that provides clear romantic guidelines for young readers.
(Remember, guys, when you want to talk to a woman, siphoning her gas and marooning her in the middle of nowhere is always a good good way to start a conversation!)

MAN: To me, sex is like real estate! I want a great view…and good drainage!

Or, put another way: One of us is wrong! If you think it’s you, then you’re right!
The original, 1959 romance art is below…

MAN: One of us is wrong! And, since I’m the boss, it’s you!

I wrote this gag for the “pet issue” of The Dayton City Paper—which runs Last Kiss every week. Yes, I do requests—occasionally. And this one was a bit of a challenge. Romance doggy style!
Below is the original romance art…which is at least as strange as the version I did!

↓ TranscriptSCENE: A dog is sitting next to a man and a woman who are on a park bench.
DOG (thinking): Too much talk! When’s he going to sniff her butt?
