“But I couldn’t be sure that you knew I knew you knew I knew. What if you only suspected that I knew you knew that I knew you knew? Oh! The thought of that kept me awake at night! ‘What if he’s only pretending to know that he knows I know he knows about what I know?!?’ I can’t tell you what kind of torture it was!”
“Well. I think I can guess what kind of torture it was. It would be like if you were uncertain that I knew that you knew, but had to carry on in case I really did know that you knew I knew you knew! Living in that kind of uncertainty must have been sheer hell!”
“Oh it was! It was! I knew you’d understand!”
“Well, at least one of us does!”
I could not have said it better myself.
Jam, that was brilliant. Of course, I knew you’d say that. Or, at least, I thought I knew. 🙂
