The Shadow of Love

The Shadow of Love

I did Last Kiss comics for every issue of Comics Buyer’s Guide from 2000 until the magazine ended in 2013. This is one of my favorites—from 2005.

Transcript:

PANEL 1, SCENE: Woman watching the shadow of a man.

CAPTION: As she sadly sang “Happy Birthday” to herself, Maggie McGoo caught her first glimpse of the Shadow Man in the flickering light of the cake’s candles…and suddenly she didn’t feel so alone!

WOMAN (thinking): He’s definitely boyfriend material! After all, black goes with everything!

PANEL 2, SCENE: The silhouette of a man and woman talking and perhaps about to kiss.

CAPTION: After awhile, she stopped dating other men. It was so much easer to spend her time with the shadow of a man than the real thing! Little by little, reality faded away…until all that remained was a Shadow Man…and a Shadow Woman!

WOMAN: Will we always be together, darling?

MAN: Yes, dear! Without a shadow of a doubt!

Leprechaun Matrimony

Leprechaun Matrimony

CONFESSION:

I can’t take credit for today’s St. Patrick’s Day comic.

The gag as well as the amazing modifications to the 1959 art (see original version below) sprang from the nimble mind and fingers of my pal Mike Pascale. I just had the good sense to say, “That’s brilliant! Go for it, Mike!”

Thanks, Mike!

However, I will happily take credit for one thing.

This St. Pat’s Day is my 32nd wedding anniversary. Okay, I also have to give a wee bit of credit to Shelagh for taking the matrimonial plunge with me and putting up with me all these years. (Frankly, even I didn’t feel like putting up with me sometimes during those 32 years.) So…

Thanks, Shelagh!

What happens when your boyfriend takes your dad’s job?

Do you cheer him on as the new football coach? Or do you tell him he’s struck out and eject him from your love life?

HINT: This is an angst-filled romance comic. Draw your own conclusions!
