SOB could have two meanings here.
I’m admittedly VERY short of sleep right now. So….. Phantom vs. Love Cop? What am I missing?
Please use short words and phrases to explain. Thanks in advance.
Rex, I’m sorry I’m so late in responding. I’m not sure, but I’m guessing this is confusing because perhaps you don’t know The Phantom’s backstory.
Although The Phantom pretended to be immortal and was called “the Ghost Who Walks,” he was actually quite mortal. And he wasn’t the same person. The current Phantom was always replaced by his son–who always looked exactly like him–when the son got old enough to assume the role.
Therefore, each version of The Phantom over the years, decades and centuries absolutely had to have a son. Otherwise his legacy would die.
That’s why Joe is equating Abby’s offer to bear him a son, with The Phantom legend.
And, yes, that explanation totally drains the humor out of it. And you have to be a rabid Phantom geek to get the joke. But, hey, you asked. I hope that helps!
