Happy Valentine’s Day from the amazing Mike Pascale (and the lovely, but talented me.)
Once again Mike has taken old romance art from my archive—(see original below)—and turned it into something cool. And, let’s face, kinda creepy.
In fact, this may be the creepiest Last Kiss Valentine character comic since my dirty, old mail carrier. Hmm. Okay, he’s even creepier.
Way to go Mike!

I couldn’t resist writing a last-minute gag for Valentine’s Day. But I ended up writing four different punchlines for the guy in this comic.
—One sorta sweet. (“You bet!”)
—One sorta rude. ( “I’ve had worse!”)
—One sorta sexy. (“Happy Valentine’s Night!”)
—And the sorta silly one I ended up using.
Which is best? Beats me. For sheer schmaltz, though, I’d vote for the caption in the original romance comic from the 1960s:

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
I love collaborating with Mike Pascale on holiday gags. We always begin by selecting art that Mike can modify (or in this case “Cupify”) to fit the holiday. Then we both think up gags
Many of these are great gags. Wonderful, side-splitting, pee-in-your-pants funny gags.
For the sake of hygiene, we throw all those gags away and just use whatever is left over.
Below is the original art (drawn by Vince Colletta) with the original text as it appeared in an issue of First Kiss in the early 1960s.

Valentine’s Day is a major event in the Lustig household. It’s not well known, but without our lavish Valentine celebrations the candy, flower, stupid-but-adorable gift, and eatable panty industries would collapse.
But times are tough. So we’re praying that Congress includes a modest $1 billion (or two!) Valentine subsidy in the stimulus package. After all, even in desperate times like these, everyone should be able to afford romance…and eatable underwear.
