Art probably by Matt Baker. From the story “Dungaree Doll” in First Love Illustrated #89, Nov. 1962. Harvey Comics. (Likely a reprint from an earlier romance comic.)

Just to be clear, while the person who went on a shopping spree in this cartoon is a woman, it could’ve just as easily been a guy. For example, a guy like me.
I think many of us with Y chromosomes can be equally loose with our money. For example, even if you disregard comic books–which obviously are crucial to my survival–it’s entirely possible that I may have overspent once, twice or a thousand times over the years.
(Although I’m more practical and careful these days, I almost never go shopping on Black Friday. I don’t need the hassle and I can’t afford to save too much money on bargains!)
As for this art, it really jumped out to me when I was trying to come up with a Black Friday gag. The gag materialized as soon as I saw the art. So I went with it. And, I’ll admit, I had a lot of fun doing so.
Pencils possibly by Matt Baker. Art is from the Glory Forbes story in Rangers Comics #37, Oct. 1947. Published by Fiction House.

At the risk of sounding gooey, sentimental–and less witty than I pretend to be–I want to say something serious. I have a lot of things and people to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. But I’m particularly thankful for you my readers.
Without you I’d just be pretending to be witty to myself. And I’d probably get bored and stop listening to myself pretty quickly. So thank you. I hope you all have pleasant, safe and even great Thanksgivings!
