Devil’s Night

Devil’s Night

Mike Pascale used characters from two different panels when he created today’s comic. Check out the original panels below. And for those of you who aren’t familiar with Devil’s Night, it apparently started out as a sort of “mischief night” every Oct. 30, but then got out of hand—especially in Detroit.

Creation of an Image

You might think that creating images through artificial intelligence would be easy. And often it is. But, in many cases, you have to modify the image in Photoshop (or a similar software program) to get what you want.

Why? Because A.I. usually adds something unexpected and unwanted to the art. In the first image below the biggest surprise was that the woman’s breast was bare. So, I had to cover her up—plus remove some wilder bits of her hair. (Or is that a tentacle in the lower left of the image below?)

By the way, the woman’s nudity wasn’t something I requested in my image prompts. The MidJourney’s A.I. did that on its own—even though Midjourney has a policy against nude images. In fact, you can’t even use “sexy” as one of your MidJourney word prompts!

This was the image I started with when I created my “succubus.” Then I modified it—using elements from the images below.

Via Midjourney, I created many versions of this woman. MidJourney kept surprising me by making the woman naked—often with a malformed, bared breast. The elements of this image that I used for Last Kiss were the red eyes and the black streaks down her face.

Strange things sometimes show up in images created by A.I. Here we get some sort of spike in the woman’s eye. Why? I have no idea. But I did like the woman’s top and so I used that in the Last Kiss version. And that was the final element I needed for my image.

My thanks to Allen Freeman and model Felina Vie for the photo. (Yes, it’s a re-run, but seeing Felina again is always a good thing!) Lots of new Halloween gags on the way!

Focus on Hope

Focus on Hope

Not sure what Juneteenth is or just want to learn more? One of the Smithsonian museum pages has an excellent, short piece. And for a longer, much more comprehensive overview, try this Wikipedia page.

Transcript:

SCENE: Our view is from what could be a cave or a home carved out of rock. A window opening has been carved out of the rock and is open to the outside. A bird is perched on the window sill and facing outward.

CAPTION:

“Juneteenth means so much to me.

“It represents the freedom that my ancestors fought so tirelessly for.

“But rather than focusing on the brutalization of my people then and now. I choose to focus
on hope.”
