It wouldn’t be Halloween without at least one Last Kiss monster gag with my pal Mike Pascale. And we’ve got two this year. Wait’ll you see Friday’s vampire comic!
I think Mike came up with this zombie gag a year ago, but we couldn’t use it then. So I dusted it off for this year and made a few minor changes or—as I explained to Mike—huge, brilliant improvements. Then, of course, Mike improved my improvements. And then I…well, you get the idea.
As always, Mike’s “zombification” of the art is hilarious!
Inks by Dick Giordano from the story “Heartbreaker” in FIRST KISS #12, 1960.

If you’re like most people, you’ve said to yourself, “Gee, I like cats and I like zombies. If only I could enjoy both at the same time.”
Today’s Zombie Cat is for you.
It’s like the Walking Dead crossed with Garfield—revolting and yet kinda cute. Credit (or blame) for this disturbing visual goes to my pal Mike (The Monster) Pascale.
I also want to mention and thank my brother-in-law Rich (The Rascal) Hernandez for the basic idea for Zombie Cat and the “Last Hiss” title for today’s comic. If dead talking pets become the next Internet rage, it’s his fault.
Finally, I owe a big thanks to Diego (The Dude) Jourdan Pereira for the Last Kiss comic that we zombified! (See it and the original 1954 comic art below.)

(In case you’re wondering, the Martha StewTart saga will resume Friday.)
My pal Mike Pascale is on a mission His goal is to revamp my Last Kiss art for as many holidays as possible. He started with Halloween—turning starry-eyed sweethearts into zombies.
Next came Christmas—turning lovers into elves and Santa. Then Valentine’s Day—Cupid.
And now, for the Fourth of July—Uncle Sam.
What’s next? Beats me. But…no. Stop! Mike, don’t even think about…Columbus Day!
The Last Kiss art---prior to Mike's modifications. Color by Allen Freeman.
Below is the original First Kiss romance art from the 1960s.
↓ TranscriptSCENE: Man dressed as Uncle Sam smiles at woman. In background, fireworks are going off.
MAN: I’m a Yankee Doodle! A big pole, flag-waving, randy dandy!
WOMAN: Really? You look more like a "fruited plain!”
