Once upon a time I submitted this comic to a newspaper and was surprised to have it rejected–not because it dealt with sex, but because the gag “didn’t make sense.” The editor told me that if the man is the young woman’s father then he “has to know where babies come from.”
Sigh. So much for absurdist humor.

YOUNG WOMAN (to her father): Dad, I was wondering...where do babies come from?
FATHER: Beats me! I keep asking your mom...but she won’t tell me!
FATHER: Beats me! I keep asking your mom...but she won’t tell me!
Maybe he’s not the girl’s (biological) father – hence his confusion regarding where babies come from.
Don’t think for a second that grown men and women can’t be spectacularly stupid about sex and babies. They can.
An old girlfriend of mine used to work at a Planned Parenthood clinic in New York City. The neighborhood was mostly Cuban, Puerto Rican, and a lot of folks from the Dominican Republic.
Her clients were women from 12 to 54 … many of whom had children … who literally did not know their uterus from their elbows and who couldn’t tell you where babies come from to save their lives.
You can solidly reject the anti-sex-education argument that “adults figure it out”. Adults often do no such thing. Here’s a more first-hand experience: I’m on the bus and two women are talking. One of them says, “I can’t believe I’m having another baby. How is that possible? I mean, Donald and I just don’t do it all that often.”
Drose, I think he’s her biological dad. He’s just a bit out of the info loop…as Kevin’s post shows is possible.
