I remember reading Felson books as a young teenager. “Boy Gets Car”, etc. Hot Rod is not a term you hear much these days. I recall a concert by Black Oak Arkansas where the lead talked about driving up to his girlfriends house and announcing, “Baby, I got a Hot Rod”. My first wife (later, much later, years later) got a headache at the concert but wasn’t offended by the comment.
