Maybe the original explains the revision. The boyfriends’ something hadn’t grown 8 inches yet.

  Supposedly, a female anchor brought the evening news to a complete stop one Monday night when, commenting on the predicted weekend snowstorm that failed to materialize, she said to the male weatherman, “Say, Dan [or whatever his name was], what happened to those eight inches you promised me Friday night?”
