That actually happens a lot. A friend of mine had opened a dating meet and greet website, she was having difficulties with men only showing up for one group meeting, asked me to clandestinely go to a couple meetings. Not only did some ask up front, but some used a lawyer to pull up credit and fiscal information on the men.
Reminds me of a Mike Birbiglia bit:
I need a woman that wants me for my money but isn’t good at math.
