Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory…
It’s a celebration of progress.
It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, things do get better. America can change.

In part, but to the former slaves who established Juneteenth, it was absolutely a matter of FREEDOM. All the other interpretations came later.
To paraphrase Bilbo as written by JRRT:
“I don’t appreciate half of what Barack Obama did as president half as well as I should; and I dislike less than half of what Barack Obama did as president half as much as it deserves.”
As president Obama demonstrated class, charm, coolness, credibility, compassion, wit, warmth, wisdom, subtlety, sensitivity, self-awareness, humility, honor, and grace.
I wish the critics of Juneteenth showed even one or two of the above qualities.
Amen to that Dave!
