Re: the title on the original story. Was this an inside joke? I don’t think ‘gay’ was in full use in 1959 to the extant that it has become.
Dick, I really doubt that it was an inside joke. I agree that I don’t think “gay” was a common term for homosexuality in 1959.
On the other hand, there’s a sequence in the 1938 film Bringing Up Baby where Cary Grant’s character (David Huxley) is wearing a woman’s nightgown and has the following exchange with someone he encounters:
Mrs. Random: Well who are you?
David Huxley: I don’t know. I’m not quite myself today.
Mrs. Random: Well, you look perfectly idiotic in those clothes.
David Huxley: These aren’t *my* clothes.
Mrs. Random: Well, where *are* your clothes?
David Huxley: I’ve *lost* my clothes!
Mrs. Random: But why are you wearing *these* clothes?
David Huxley: Because I just went *GAY* all of a sudden!

I certainly hope so, Dick. I just wrote to her and asked her if she’d like to do more art for me.
This year I haven’t commissioned new art from anyone. I had quite a bit of unused art—mostly by Diego Jourdan Pereira—in my archives. So I’ve been using up that. But I’ve also been re-using some of my old art—spiffing things up by adding new backgrounds and special effects—to give it a new look.
But it’s more than past time for some new art from (I hope) Elite. And possibly others.
So thanks for the question. You spurred me into contacting Elite—something I needed to do!
By the way, Dick. I do have one piece of art by Elite in my archive of unused artwork. I’ll see if I can come up with some good dialogue and use it.
